  • List your credentials, including any formal qualifications or memberships that qualified and enabled you to write your book.
  • What led you to write this book? Include anything that helped you develop the idea.
  • If you have been published before (anywhere in the world), list your previously books and include the publisher, country, date and ISBN.
  • List any appearances/ interviews / features about you on TV, radio or in the press.
  • List any other information about yourself that you consider relevant.

About your book

  • Outline: Remember, although you know your book well by now, you are describing it to a complete stranger who has not seen it yet, so go right back to the beginning and state simply what the book sets out to show. Don't go into too much detail but cover the concept as fully as you can, taking maybe 350-400 words for your description.
  • Synopsis: Prepare a Contents list then take each chapter in turn and write a brief outline (10-20 lines) of each. List any illustrations that may be required (photographs, drawings, maps - colour or black & white).

Selling points
Use four or five bullet points to explain:

  • Why this book - what is its purpose?
  • List titles and publishers of any directly comparable works
  • What makes this book different to other books on the market in this area?

The market

  • What is the subject area of your book?
  • Who will buy your book?
  • Who will benefit from your book?
  • What other authors/books are attuned/contemporary with it?

General PR/ Media Activity/ Promotion Opportunities

  • Past activity - using bullet points, list any significant coverage you may have had in newspapers, magazines and TV etc.
  • Forthcoming activities - using bullet points, give dates and times (projected or confirmed) for forthcoming interviews, coverage, TV programmes etc.
